Overview
The Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek, located northwest of Kathmandu Valley in the Langtang region, is one of the most popular and hardest treks. The trek takes you from the crowded routes of Langtang to the scenic trails of Helambu via the icy Ganja La Pass (5,130 m). The Langtang Ganja La Pass Trekking offers panoramic views of the spectacular Langtang Valley and Helambu Valley in the Himalayas, as well as high passes covered by water. Our journey begins with a full day of sightseeing in Kathmandu. The walk begins in Syabrubesi and continues through various Tamang villages before reaching the famed Langtang valley. After a spiritual tour of the settlement of Langtang, the trek leads through the alpine wilderness to the old Kyanjin Gompa Monastery. The path eventually leads to the impressive Ganja La Pass, the trek’s highest point, which remains frozen all year. The Langtang Ganja La Pass Trek leads to alpine woods, luxuriant flora and animals, and high-altitude pastureland. The northern areas of the city are largely within the Langtang National Park limits. The path then passes through Helambu’s Sherpa settlements before ending at Melamchi Pul Bazar. You can also trek through the lovely villages, rice terraces, and Buddhist monasteries of Tarke Gyang and Sermathang before returning to Kathmandu.

Itinerary
You will arrive in Kathmandu valley at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and our agents from Gravity Expedition will be there to pick you up. They will take you to your hotel, where you can rest and enjoy a delicious and traditional Nepali meal. In the evening, you have the option to attend a fascinating folk cultural performance.
Following breakfast, you will embark on a full-day city tour in Kathmandu Valley. You can visit the ancient Pashupatinath Temple and Swyambhunath, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Our sightseeing trip highlights include the largest Buddhist Stupa at Boudhanath and the art history and historical architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square, both of which represent old Nepalese culture.
Patan City’s famous fine arts and ancient buildings will attract you during your visit. When you return to your hotel, you will have the opportunity to explore the neighborhood, eat dinner, and perhaps take a leisurely stroll down the famous streets. Finally, the day concludes with a traditional Nepalese dinner at Nepali Cultural Restaurant.
We leave after breakfast and drive for approximately 7-8 hours via Kathmandu’s northern hills. Along the route, you’ll see stunning views of white snowcapped summits like Mt. Annapurna II, Manasalu, Ganesh Himal, and other lesser peaks, as well as a lush landscape of hillocks, rivers, and towns. Experience Himalayan landscape and culture as you travel through terraced farms and rural communities. Through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche, the splendor of hillsides and ridgeline vistas gives the feeling that you are reaching low terrain. Before heading to Dhunche, we stop for lunch at the Trishuli Bazaar. We head to Syabrubesi for the night.
Today, we continue down the hill until we come to a bifurcation in the road to the east, where it drops quickly off the crest and into a dense woodland. The trail begins by winding through the valley’s lower deciduous oak and maple forests before ascending to massive stands of spruce, fir, and blue pine. Our paths will avoid perilous dips that plunge into a silt-filled river below, as towering walls press in on us. We cross a bridge (1960m) over a Langtang Khola stream before ascending from the river to reach the historic Langtang trail between Sherpa Gaon and Syabrubesi in an hour, shortly after the trail levels off. The Lama Hotel in the small community of Chon gong is still hour away from this trail intersection. Overnight in tea house
The day begins with a mild ascent, but it quickly grows harder, taking you through magnificent woods of hemlocks, oaks, maples, and white and pink rhododendrons high above the Langtang Khola. A tantalizing glimpse of snow-capped summits emerges, along with a brief vista of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7244m) through the trees. The trail leads to a log bridge, and as we climb further, we come across the verdant meadows of Ghora Tabela (2992m). The trail progressively ascends as the valley opens up into a classic U-shaped glacier. The trail crosses a stream and ascends past several water-powered mills and prayer wheels to the major hamlet of Langtang (3430m), the headquarters of Langtang National Park. The village features flat-roofed Tibetan-style houses, and the top settlement’s beautifully carved driving windows are worth studying. The valley is bordered by stone walls that enclose fields covered with buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips, and barley, and you can easily spot yaks and wild goats wandering around.
The trail continues beyond Langtang, going through the small yak-herding communities of Mundu, Sindum, and Yampha before following the Langtang Khola to Kyanjin Gompa (3870 meters). The hike lasts three hours and offers vistas of mountains and snow-capped peaks. You can go to the Yak Cheese Factory in the afternoon. The views of the natural landscape and mountains are spectacular.
Today is the trek’s rest and exploration day. We can visit the monastery and cheese factory, hike up the moraine to see the Langtang Lirung’s breathtaking ice faces and cascading glaciers, or climb Kyanjin Ri (4350m) and Tserko Ri (5,000m), the trek’s highest points. An easy trip to the Langtang Lirung, Langtang Range, Kinshung, and Yansa Tsenji provides beautiful views. We also have the option of visiting Langshisa Kharka as a side trip. There are other smaller isolated valleys in the neighboring areas to the north, providing opportunities for side trips. Overnight in Kyanjin.
On this day, you will hike for six to seven hours to reach Nyengang Kharka. You will pass through several gorgeous communities. You will have to hike up a steep hill and be greeted by the natural vegetation of the surrounding area. There are no houses or lodges in this area, so you must camp out overnight. The trail continues to ascend, and the area contains little natural flora. This area lacks villages, hence there are no lodges.
Out of the entire walk, today is the shortest day. We are going to be climbing in the direction of the High camp today. The walk is a little steeper and takes three to four hours. When you get to High Camp, have a look around before setting up camp for the night.
The trail heads south, climbing steeply to the pass while passing by streams and moraines. The trail ascends rapidly to the pass before dropping off a steep side into the Yangri Khola Valley. It would be a lengthy day because Ganja La is one of the steep passes. The Ganja La Pass is covered with icy ice for much of the year. Make the difficult journey over the rocky moraine known as Ganja La, and through the small lakes and between the rocks. The crossing provides an amazing panoramic view of the snow-capped peaks of the Tibetan border and the Langtang Lirung. There are times when it’s challenging to climb up and down the pass because of the snow and ice. We will set our camp at Keldang, where the route leads, by following the creek through green meadows.
You will stroll over the meadows and hills on this particular day. Today, the mountains will be magnificently visible to you. You will have an exciting experience as you stroll through a forest. Even though the walk is lengthy, it is worthwhile because this village’s natural splendor will wow you. At Dukpu, you’ll spend the night camping. Trekking for six to seven hours.
From Dukpu, the trail declines before ascending to a pass. Views of the Annapurna region, Mount Everest, and local mountains may be seen from the pass, which offers amazing views. The trail winds through a grove of pine and rhododendron before dropping steeply to Gekye Gompa. Tarkeghyang is reached after a precipitous fall that passes small herders. Some of the most exquisite Sherpa settlements can be seen by visiting one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries.
The journey today is quite simple, traveling across level terrain dotted with beautiful trees. The walk passes through a little forest with views of the lovely village of Helambu. The trail rounds the wide valley end between Parachin and Gangyul, a Sherpa town in the Khumbu area. Another charming Sherpa village, Sermathang offers breathtaking views of the Jugal Himal mountain and a number of old monasteries. The settlement has breathtaking views of Everest in the distance, as well as Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Rolwaling on a clear day.
Following breakfast, the trail meanders through cultivated fields and meadows before descending gradually to Melamchi Bazaar. Drive away from here.
Leisure day in Kathmandu, followed by a farewell meal and celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. On this day, you can visit the valley’s numerous museums, including the Narayanhiti Museum, which was previously the residence of Nepal’s last king. You can also visit the hilltop of Nagarkot. After exploring the valley’s world heritage sites, you will enjoy a farewell supper with your Nepali friends and guide. You and your guide may even decide to extend your stay to include a Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and other activities.
