Itinerary
Arrive in Lhasa. Transfer to your hotel & get settled. Overnight in Kyichu Hotel Deluxe room.
In the morning, go to the Potala Palace, Tibet’s most impressive edifice. Visit the Jokhang Temple, which is located in Barkhor Square in Lhasa. The Barkhor is a popular shopping street that sells items and souvenirs from Tibet, Nepal, and India. Pilgrims from all across Tibet come to the Barkhor to pray in front of the Jokhang. Afterwards, go to Ramoche, a little monastery in the city center.
Overnight at Kyichu Hotel (Deluxe Room).
Visit Drepung, one of Lhasa’s three most famous monasteries. Drepung is located on Gambo Utse Mountain, just outside of Lhasa. Once home to up to 10,000 monks. The massive monastic complex houses numerous prayer halls, dormitories, and temples. The Nechung temple, which used to house the state oracle, is located just below the monastery.
Afterwards, go to Sera Monastery and hear monks dispute in the courtyard. If you prefer hiking, take the hour-long circumambulation trek around the monastery complex. Overnight at Kyichu Hotel (Deluxe Room).
Start your experience in the Himalayas by driving to Gyantse. Cross the Kamba La (4794m) and Karo La (5010m) passes, which offer superb views. After Kamba La, visit Yamdrok Lake, a beautiful turquoise-colored lake with breathtaking scenery. Then, drive to Gyantse to see the Pelkor Chode monastery and Kumbum Stupa before continuing on to Shigatse, which is two hours away. The famed Tashilhunpo monastery houses a gigantic Buddha. Depending on the season, nomads and other mobile traders will arrive in gorgeous traditional attire. Join them for a cup of steaming tea at their home. Continue driving west; in the late afternoon, you will catch your first glimpse of Holy Mt. Kailash and Lake Manasarovar. Drive to Darchen. Prepare for the circumambulation of Mount Kailash. Overnight camping.
Walk along the lovely granite cliff and inhale deep breaths of fresh air. From time to time, the face of Mt. Kailash appears. The trail leads through the iconic Tarpoche Flagpole before entering Lha Chu Valley. By mid-afternoon, you will have arrived at the hallowed DiraPuk Monastery, which is located at an elevation of around 5000 metres. You can see Mt. Kailash’s North Face from here. This is also regarded as the birthplace of Lord Shiva, one of the major forms of God in Hinduism. Overnight camping.
Hike over a valley to the Dolma-La Pass. Make an offering at the top, then take a meditation break to forget about your troubles and cares. Then begin descending. Arrive in ZuthalPuk, Milerepa’s miracle cave, in the late afternoon.

After completing your round of Mt. Kailash, a car will pick you up and drive you to Lake Manasarovar, the world’s highest freshwater lake. The turquoise-colored lake is abundant with fish and swans. Manasarovar is surrounded by the holy mountains Mt. Kailash, Mt. Gurula-Mandala, and Lake Rashekshi. The region is thought to be rich in gold and other minerals, hot springs, and hundreds of wild animals. Then, explore Rakshas Tal Lake and Chiu Monastery, a modest monastery perched high on a hillside. You can take a soak in the hot springs. Overnight camping.
