Timbung Pokhari Trek: Nepal’s Hidden Gem

14 Days

Overview

Timbung Pokhari is derived from the Limbu word Timbak, which means to fire a gun. The villagers gave the pond this name because it occasionally makes a gunshot sound. The reservoir is remarkable for its natural beauty and biodiversity. Timbung Pokhari, which is 466 m long and 154 m deep, offers stunning views of Kanchenjunga. Even though the pond is covered in snow for six months of the year, thousands of pilgrims have visited it to perform puja for millennia. Pilgrims congregate at the pond, especially during Shrawan month (July-August) and around festivals like Janai Purnima and Nag Panchami. The region surrounding the pond is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, and it is also known as the herbal city. The field contains vital plants such as Bikham, Kutki, Padmachal, Jatamasi, Panchaule, and Yarsagumba, as well as aromatic herbs like Sunpati, Bhairungpani, and Sikpale.
