Overview
The Larke La Pass is one of Nepal’s longest passes, therefore the Larke Pass Trek is strenuous across icy moraines and steep routes. It takes you around Manaslu, the world’s eighth highest mountain at 8156m, so be prepared for a high altitude that may be both exciting and hard. As a result, while previous climbing expertise is not required for this Nepal trekking trip, physical fitness is essential. The Manaslu trekking package takes you from Soti Khola at 710m, via the moraines of Larkya Glacier, and up to Larkya La Pass at 5161m, where you can enjoy a breathtaking vista of Manaslu and its surrounding peaks. You will go down the Budi Gandaki, a river that will mark your path and lead you to higher ground. As you proceed through the many phases of the walk, you will see alpine forests, deep valleys, towns scattered with multicolored prayer flags, and age-old Gompas, small Tibetan monasteries like Pung Gyan Gompa, which are the highlights of this adventure. Manaslu trek is possible. Teahouses and guesthouses for small parties or individuals. Every year, new hotels and restaurants are built in response to tourist interest and aspirations. Most guest hotels and lodges provide private rooms. Most bathrooms are shared. A simple tea house or tented house can be found at the Larkya base camp known as Dharmasal or Larky phedi. Every guest home offers the traditional Nepali cuisine Dal Bhat (rice, curry, and lentil soup). All of our routes’ guest houses serve a range of foods, including rice, veggies, noodles, potatoes, and soup. Many of them provide Western cuisine on the menu. Most guesthouses and trailside restaurants serve soft drinks, snacks, wine, bottled mineral water, and beer.

Itinerary
You will arrive in Kathmandu valley at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and our agents from Gravity Expedition will be there to pick you up. They will take you to your hotel, where you can rest and enjoy a delicious and traditional Nepali meal. In the evening, you have the option to attend a fascinating folk cultural performance.
Following breakfast the following morning, you will go for a full-day sightseeing trip of the Kathmandu Valley. You may see Swyambhunath, a very old temple that is essentially classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the revered Pashupatinath Temple.
Highlights of our guided trip include the largest Buddhist stupa at Boudhanath and the exquisite artwork and old architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square, which showcase the ancient culture of Nepal.
Patan City’s historic architecture and renowned fine arts will charm you on a visit. You will have time to explore the neighborhood, eat supper, and maybe take a leisurely stroll down the well-known streets when you get back to your hotel. A traditional Nepalese dinner at the Nepali Cultural Restaurant rounds off the day.
The day will commence with an 8-9 hour drive to Soti Khola along the Prithvi Highway, which runs alongside the magnificent Trishuli River. You’ll go through dense forests, up and down hills, and past old and new communities. After arriving in Arughat, you’ll travel off-road through traditional villages until you reach Soti Khola, where you’ll spend the night.
We continue to Machha Khola, passing via Armala, Apubesi, Liding, and Khani Besi on the way. The trail to the Sal woods winds through terraced farms and various waterfalls before terminating with a brief stroll along the sandy banks of the roaring Budhi Gandaki River. After that, we continue going across tough terrain until we arrive at Machha Khola, where we will spend the night.
We pass the MachheKhola and head up to Khorla Bensi, a little village, and Tatopani, a hot spring. The valley walls steepen until they are inaccessible, at which time the trail crosses the left bank via a suspension bridge. In some places, the trail is quite exposed and difficult. After a short hike through the woods, we arrive at Doban’s only guest house. The Buri Gandaki descends an incredible series of rapids above Doban. Following this high part, the river becomes much more calm, meandering across a vast gravel bed. We cross the river again on a suspension bridge at Lauri and then ascend a high trail to the fields of Jagat 1340m, where we spend the night in a guest house, a 5-6 hour journey.
You’ll begin the day by going via the Salleri and Sirdibas towns, following the Budhi Gandaki River upstream. We’ll continue going through the terraced farms of Philim, Ekle Bhatti, and Thangurmu when we cross the suspension bridge. Following that, you’ll arrive in the Gurung village of Deng after over a few more suspension bridges, traversing through bamboo forests, and passing through the settlement of Nyak. You can spend the night here and enjoy the stunning view of Shringi Himal (7161 meters).
The valley remains steep and magnificent. We arrive at Lana village and start seeing Mani stones, indicating that we have reached the high country Buddhist zone. We arrive in Ghap, which spans the river, after only around four hours. We’ve reached Tibetan land, and the cultural and climate shifts are palpable; the trek is now pleasant and cool. As we ascend, we enter an alpine environment and begin to see more mountains. Following Ghap, there are additional Mani walls and three more crossings of the Budi Gandaki on our approach to Namrung (2630m), which is a 5-6 hour climb with an overnight stop at a lodge or guesthouse.
As we leave Namrung, we will ascend to Lihi Village, then Sho and Lho. Because the trail passes through a landslide area, it is vital to maintain a consistent speed. To reach Sama Gaon, you’ll pass through numerous Chortens and Gompas, as well as enjoy a breathtaking view of Manaslu (8156m), Larke (6249m), and Naike (6211m) peaks. We will spend the night at Sama Gaon.
This is a relaxing day in Samagaon to help you adjust to the altitude. You take a break in a peaceful forest surrounded by mountains to adjust and unwind. Hiking to Manaslu Base Camp offers breathtaking views of Samdo (Pang phuchuli), Nagdi chuli, Simnang Himal, Manaslu glacier, Manaslu ice fall, and Birendra Kunda, an ice lake located at Manaslu Base Camp. You can speak with your guide and choose a day tour because we don’t know what you want or where you are at the moment; nonetheless, you will spend the night at the Lodge/Hotel.
We are still moving upstream on the Budhi Gandaki River today. The trail is wider and smoother than on previous days, allowing you to take a leisurely stroll across the region’s alpine landscape. As you ascend to the town of Samdo, where we will spend the night, you will pass through gigantic Mani walls inscribed with prayers and covered with prayer flags.
It takes approximately 4/5 hours to reach Dharmashala, Larky Phedi, or Larkya base camp. The trail to your destination is rocky and zigzags the entire way. Larkya Bazaar, located close before Larkya Phedi, hosts periodic fairs for residents. People bring their products from Tibet to sell and trade here. Spend the night in a small tea house in Dharmasala/Larke Phedi.
It takes about 8-12 hours. Early in the morning, you begin trekking up a difficult ascent over a rocky and winding trail to Larkya La. You are carrying a lunchbox today. From the top, you can see Larke Peak, Mt. Manaslu’s daybreak, Ratna Chuli, Cheo Himal, and a variety of other snowcapped ranges and peaks. After crossing this pass, you’ll descend a steep slope via rock and ice. We recommend carrying little crampons if you want to visit in December or early March. Trekking expeditions may also benefit in weight loss during other seasons. Several frozen lakes will be met along the way. We suggest you to proceed cautiously. Bimthang is a large, level valley with a number of Mani walls and abandoned buildings. Overnight in a guest house in Bimthang (3590m).
The trek from Bimthang to Tillje takes approximately six to seven hours. Crossing this high grassland, you descend the Purdin Khola valley to the West Manaslu Base Camp location. From a peak at 4150 meters, you can see Manaslu to the south east and Annapurna II to the south west. Beyond a bridge over the Dudh Khola’s headwaters, you drop into a rhododendron forest and follow a track through a narrow valley until you reach Karche, the region’s highest cultivated area, at 2785 meters. Walking down, you cross a stream to get to Tilje. Here is an apple orchard that is well-known for its local wine; stay overnight at the guest home.
Leaving Tilje, you go uphill for about 1-1.30 hours to reach Dharapani, crossing a bridge over the Marshyangdi River. Check out the Manaslu special permit again and continue walking the Annapurna trail to Katre (Khotro) and then to Tal village, which is a really pleasant village in Marshyndi valley. Stay overnight at Guest.
Today, we’ll take a local Jeep or bus to Besi Sahar 800m, which will take about 4-6 hours. Cross the Marshyandi River and take a 5-7 hour Jeep journey to Besi Sahar. If you want to walk all the way to Basi Sahar, it will take two days, but you must follow the route, thus we recommend getting a Jeep to Basi Sahar. Walking all the way to Shyange (1100m) in one day and then hiking to Besi Sahar the next day will take 5-6 hours. Overnight stay in the hotel.
There is a minibus or microbus service from BesiSahar to Kathmandu every hour till 2-3 pm, so we will take the bus after breakfast at 7-9 a.m. The travel takes 5-6 hours, including a lunch stop along the way. Arrive at Balaju Bus Station and be taken to your hotel in Kathmandu. You can go to Pokhara via bus or hire a car. The travel from Besi Sahar to Pokhara takes four hours, with an overnight stay in a hotel.
Leisure day in Kathmandu, followed by a farewell meal and celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. On this day, you can visit the valley’s numerous museums, including the Narayanhiti Museum, which was previously the residence of Nepal’s last king. You can also visit the hilltop of Nagarkot. After exploring the valley’s world heritage sites, you will enjoy a farewell supper with your Nepali friends and guide. You and your guide may even decide to extend your stay to include a Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and other activities.
Our representative of Gravity Expedition will accompany you to Tribhuvan International Airport as you prepare to board your flight back home. While you travel home, you can start thinking about your next adventure here in Nepal, and rest assured that Gravity Expedition will be there to provide excellent service for your future endeavors.

FAQs
The Manaslu Larke Pass Trek is an exhilarating adventure in Nepal that circumnavigates Mount Manaslu, the eighth highest peak in the world, and crosses the challenging Larke La Pass at 5,160 meters (16,929 feet). This trek is unforgettable due to its combination of diverse landscapes, cultural richness, and the breathtaking views it offers. Trekkers experience everything from lush forests and terraced fields to arid high-altitude terrain and stunning Himalayan vistas. The trek also immerses you in the local cultures of the Gurung and Tibetan-influenced communities and provides a sense of accomplishment upon reaching the high-altitude pass.
The best times to trek the Manaslu Larke Pass are during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. These periods offer the most stable weather conditions, with clear skies, moderate temperatures, and excellent visibility. Spring provides warmer temperatures and blooming flora, while autumn offers crisp air and clear mountain views. Trekking during these times helps avoid the heavy rains of the monsoon season and the extreme cold of winter.
Accommodations on the Manaslu Larke Pass Trek vary from basic teahouses in lower areas to more basic camping options at higher altitudes. In the villages, you will find teahouses or lodges with simple rooms and communal dining areas. At higher altitudes, including the areas around the Larke La Pass, camping is necessary. Trekking agencies typically provide tents, sleeping mats, and dining facilities at these higher camps to ensure comfort and safety during the trek.
The Manaslu region is rich with wildlife. You might spot animals like the Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, and, if you’re lucky, even a snow leopard. Bird watchers can look out for species such as the Himalayan griffon and various pheasants. The trek offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife spotting amid its stunning natural landscapes.
The weather varies with the seasons. During the trekking seasons (spring and autumn), you can expect daytime temperatures to be mild, ranging from 10°C to 20°C (50°F to 68°F) at lower altitudes, and much colder at higher elevations. Nights can be quite chilly, especially above 4,000 meters (13,123 feet). Weather conditions can be unpredictable, so be prepared for sudden changes, including rain or snow at higher altitudes.
Yes, solo travelers can do the Manaslu Larke Pass Trek, but it’s highly recommended to join a group or hire a guide. Trekking with a guide or group enhances safety, provides local expertise, and enriches the experience with shared camaraderie. Most trekking agencies offer options for solo travelers to join organized groups or arrange private treks.
