Overview
Mt. Lhotse, at 8,516 meters (27,932 feet), is a massive peak located about 3 kilometers south of Mount Everest, divided by the South Col. The South Face of Lhotse, often known as the “South Wall,” was a tough obstacle for mountaineers, with multiple failed efforts before being successfully scaled in 1984. The Lhotse massif consists of three major peaks: Lhotse East or Middle, Lhotse Shar, and Lhotse. The Lhotse massif’s magnificent east-west crest is located directly south of Mount Everest, and the South Col connects the two summits. Lhotse is accessible from either Everest Base Camp or Chhukung, and the two summits share a base camp, making it a popular mountaineering destination.
However, climbing Lhotse presents its own set of problems, including dangerous high-altitude terrain and harsh weather conditions. The Khumbu Icefall, a stretch of the ascent, is considered the most perilous, as climbers must cross treacherous ice seracs, crevasses, and avalanches. Given the obvious risks, attempting a Lhotse trip necessitates precise planning, organization, and competence. To this purpose, Wongchhu Peak Promotion provides a full service that includes all of the necessary permits, climbing documentation, logistics, and support to ensure a safe and successful climb.
Top Highlights of Lhotse

- Challenging high-altitude routes
- Stunning Himalayan vistas
- Extreme mountaineering experience
- Encounter with Sherpa culture
Itinerary
You will arrive in Kathmandu valley at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and our agents from Gravity Expedition will be there to pick you up. They will take you to your hotel, where you can rest and enjoy a delicious and traditional Nepali meal. In the evening, you have the option to attend a fascinating folk cultural performance.
Following breakfast the following morning, you will go for a full-day sightseeing trip of the Kathmandu Valley. You may see Swayambhunath, a very old temple that is essentially classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the revered Pashupatinath Temple.
Highlights of our guided trip include the largest Buddhist stupa at Boudhanath and the exquisite artwork and old architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square, which showcase the ancient culture of Nepal.
Patan City’s historic architecture and renowned fine arts will charm you on a visit. You will have time to explore the neighborhood, eat supper, and maybe take a leisurely stroll down the well-known streets when you get back to your hotel. A traditional Nepalese dinner at the Nepali Cultural Restaurant rounds off the day.
We spend the day drafting final documentation, inspecting gear and equipment, and so forth. If you forget something before heading for the mountain, you can go shopping one last time.
An early-morning picturesque flight to Lukla. In Lukla, we’ll meet our camp staff and porters before heading directly to Phakding for our first night. Phakding is located on the banks of the Dudh Kosi, which drains the entire Khumbu region, and serves as the area’s principal commerce route. Overnight in the lodge.
Continue along the banks of the Dudh Koshi, crossing it twice on short suspension bridges before arriving at Monjo, where we will enter the Khumbu National Park. To reach Namche Bazaar, cross the confluence of the Dudh Koshi and the Bhote Koshi over a high suspension bridge and ascend steeply for about two hours. This is a rich trading town and the capital of the Khumbu region, containing authentic Tibetan antiquities.
We spend a day in Namche Bazar recuperating and allowing our body to adjust to the elevation of 3,450m (11,300ft).
The well-known Everest trail contours over the valley’s slope, high above the Dudh Koshi. Follow the trail, enjoying the first truly spectacular views of the Khumbu’s major peaks: Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Ama Dablam. Cross the DudhKoshi River, passing through various towns and countless tea shops, and climb steeply to Tengboche, home to a spectacular and recently restored monastery.
Shaded by rhododendron trees, the walk gently descends to the river and another airy suspension bridge. An hour’s trek from here takes us to Pangboche, a wonderful viewpoint for Ama Dablam. Contour up the valley side, re-cross the river, and continue up the Imja valley to the lovely farming community of Dingboche.
This is an essential part of the expedition. Dingboche is an ideal site for acclimatization. The team leader will organize daily expeditions to the surrounding hills in order to provide gradual acclimatization. Walk several of the local hills to gradually increase exposure to altitude. Follow the protocol that you previously found most suitable to ensure maximal acclimatization before arriving at base camp.
While in Dingboche, we can attend a session on high altitude acclimation at the Himalayan Rescue Association’s hospital near Pheriche. The trek to Pheriche and return will also provide fantastic acclimatization training.
Climbing period of Lhotse and Back to Base Camp.
Descend to Namche Bazar via Dingboche & Tengboche.
Continue descending to Lukla.
After breakfast, we head to the airport for our flights. The terminal building is exceedingly cold, with limited refreshments and snacks. The flight is amazing once you’ve lifted off and are rushing down into the emptiness. After missing the hillside below Number Peak and avoiding the Lamjura Pass, the plane heads to Kathmandu. Then you will be met by Wongchhu Peak Promotion agents at the domestic airport. Overnight in a hotel.
Leisure day in Kathmandu, followed by a farewell meal and celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. On this day, you can visit the valley’s numerous museums, including the Narayanhiti Museum, which was previously the residence of Nepal’s last king. You can also visit the hilltop of Nagarkot. After exploring the valley’s world heritage sites, you will enjoy a farewell supper with your Nepali friends and guide. You and your guide may even decide to extend your stay to include a Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and other activities.
Our representative of Gravity Expedition will accompany you to Tribhuvan International Airport as you prepare to board your flight back home. While you travel home, you can start thinking about your next adventure here in Nepal, and rest assured that Gravity Expedition will be there to provide excellent service for your future endeavors.

FAQs
Lhotse is the fourth highest mountain in the world, standing at 8,516 meters (27,940 feet). It is significant due to its proximity to Everest and its challenging climbing conditions, making it a prestigious goal for high-altitude climbers.
Main challenges include extreme altitude, harsh weather conditions, high technical demands, and the need for excellent acclimatization due to the thin air at such elevations.
Essential safety measures include proper acclimatization, using high-quality climbing gear, having a well-planned route and schedule, and following the guidance of experienced guides.
Climbers can expect extremely cold temperatures, high winds, and variable weather conditions. Preparation involves wearing layered, high-quality cold-weather gear and being ready for sudden weather changes.
