Overview
Chitwan National Park is Nepal’s first national park, with beautiful scenery and abundant wildlife. This park, established in 1973, covers 932 square kilometers and is located in Chitwan District of south-central Nepal’s subtropical Inner Terai lowlands. The elevation ranges from 100 m (330 ft) higher up in the southern Churia Hills’ river valleys to 815 m (2 674 ft) above. UNESCO classified Chitwan National Park as a World Heritage Site in 1984. Chitwan National Park is a birdwatcher’s heaven. It has reported 634 bird species, including Bengal’s most endangered florican, the great pied hornbill, among many others. Other endangered species in Chitwan National Park include the larger one-horned rhinoceros, royal Bengal tiger, gharial crocodile, freshwater Gangetic dolphin and others. However, there are four types of deer, two types of chimps, wild boar, sloth bear, elephant, and leopards. The Chitwan National Park Tour also includes a Tharu Cultural Dance throughout the evening. It offers visitors to watch traditional Tharu dances such as the magnificent Stick Dance and the warrior dance.
