Himlung Himal: Expedition to the Peak

32 Days

Overview

Himlung Himal, 7,126m (23,380ft), is a spectacular rugged mountain with an incredible walk to the summit for exploration. Himlung is located right above the historic Tibetan settlement of Phu, northeast of Annapurna and northwest of Manaslu. The Phu area was officially accessible to international expeditions and trekking in 1992. The peak gained popularity after the Japanese team led by Akio Koizumi ascended the Himlung Himal top on October 3, 1992. The trail from Annapurna to Koto, and then from Koto to Phu village, runs parallel to Himlung. The drive from Phu offers a variety of high peaks and passes, glaciers, and rural communities that always welcome you to experience incredible culture. The Himlung Himal trip also offers breathtaking views of Api Himal, Kappa Chuli Himal, Nandadevi, and many more. Mt Himlung’s base camp is about 4900 meters above sea level. The three higher camps are erected at elevations of 5,450, 6,000, and 6,350 meters, respectively. The final stretch of the mountain is rugged and snowy. It typically takes 10 to 15 days to summit Himlung Peak and return to base camp. While the ascent to Himlung Peak is straightforward compared to other summits, it requires a high degree of fitness.
