Hiunchuli Peak an Elevation Challenge

22 Days

Overview

Hiunchuli peak, which stands 6,441 meters (23,773 feet) above sea level, is one of the most attractive summits in the country. Mt Hiunchuli is Nepal’s fourth-tallest peak, located in the Annapurna range. An American Peace Corps Expedition led by Craig Anderson ascended the Hiunchuli’s southeast face for the first time in October 1971. Climbing Hiunchuli Peak provides an excellent perspective of the surrounding hills, meadows, and traditional villages. To reach the base camp, we use the Annapurna sanctuary trekking path up to Hinko and then ascend a very steep side of the hill to grassy meadows where we set up the base camp for scaling the mountain from the South-East face (the typical approach). Typically, three camps are constructed to reach Hiunchuli Peak. The second path is through the North-West Face, with a base camp set up in Annapurna South, near Annapurna. Climbing Hiunchuli Peak is not difficult if we follow the correct route. The optimum seasons for climbing Hiunchuli Peak are spring (April-May) and fall (October-November).
