Overview

Cholatse 6,440m (21,129ft), also known as Jobo Lhaptshan, is a Nepalese Himalayan mountain in the Khumbu region. A broad ridge connects Mt Cholatse to Taboche (6,501m), and the Chola glacier descends from its east face. Cholatse’s north and east faces can be seen from Dughla on the trail to Everest base camp. On April 22, 1982, Vern Clevenger, Galen Rowell, John Roskelley, and Bill O’Connor climbed Cholatse for the first time from the southwest ridge. In 1984, the north face was successfully scaled. On April 15, 2005, Ueli Steck achieved the first solo climb across the North Face. Cholatse Peak Climbing begins with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. A journey is made from Lukla to Phakding, the trading hub for Namche Bazaar. After acclimatizing in Namche, the hikers climb into the Gokyo valley. The trail then leads trekkers to the Cho-La Pass in Dzongla, which offers panoramic views of Mount Lhotse and the gigantic Mount Everest. Ascending from Dzongla will take you to the Cholaste Base Camp. Mt Cholatse Mountain, unlike other summits in Nepal, is physically demanding and necessitates a cautious approach. Cholatse peak climbing is recommended for climbers with prior experience in ice and rock climbing.
