Aside from breathtaking vistas and scenery of the high mountains of Manaslu-Boudha-Himal, Chuli stretches to Ganesh Himal in the east and the Annapurna Himalaya in the west. On this walk, we will explore a wide spectrum of Hindu culture in the low and mid hills, as well as Tibetan culture intertwined with Buddhism in the higher sections of Manaslu.
The Manaslu Circuit journey begins with an overland drive on a good highway, followed by a rocky picturesque road to Soti-Khola after Arughat town, where the journey begins into the high Manaslu valley, passing via the interesting villages of Jagat-Dyang-Logaon and Samagoan. At Samagoan, after acclimatization and a rest day, see beautiful Tibetan Buddhist culture villages with near views of Manaslu, the world’s eighth highest peak at 8,163 meters. Our trip continues over the high Larkya-la pass to Dharapani in Manang, where this fantastic Manaslu Circuit trek concludes with a drive back to Kathmandu.

This adventure to the Manaslu Circuit begins in Arughat, a large town within the district of Gorkha near the Buri-Gandaki River. The drive passes through farm villages and towns as it approaches Arughat. From here, take a jeep or other vehicle for a few hours on a remote road to Soti-Khola, a small rural community adjacent to the Soti-khola, for an overnight stay.
Our first day’s journey begins at Soti-Khola and continues upstream along the Buri Gandaki River, passing Nuali-khola with fantastic waterfall views before arriving at Machha-Khola for the night. Machha-Khola translates to “stream with fishes.
After Macha-Khola, travel to Khorla Beshi, a small farm town, and then follow a meandering road to Tatopani “Hot Spring,” where you can relax in a hot bath. After a delightful break, continue walking through Dovan and Yaruphant villages until you arrive at Jagat village, a medium big village with shops and stores, after over a short suspension bridge.
From Jagat, the walk leaps higher, following the Buri Gandkai River, then across small farm villages of Sidibas Bazaar, then a short ascent with a downhill to pass a bridge to touch Nagjet, then move up to Philim village, a large scattered out farm village, from Philim trek onwards through terraces of golden wheat and barley, as the climb extends a rocky ridge top and into bamboo forest area, finally ending at Dyang village for an overnight stay.
After passing through Dyang and approaching the high Himalayan alpine area, the journey descends to Bihi Bazaar, a small village beside the river, from which the walk continues on a moderate trail with a few short ups and downs until reaching Ghap village for an overnight stay.
From Ghap village, follow a pleasant trail along the Buri Gandaki River’s bank, crossing the bridge through scattered local farm villages with cultivated farm fields of barley, wheat, and millets, and arriving at Numrung village with spectacular views of Mt. Manaslu’s North Face. Continue walking through Banjham, Lhi, and Sho villages, then increase altitude with an hour climb to Shrip village, where you will spend the night.
After Dyang and Lho-Gaon, the altitude drops to a cooler temperature, with tree lines reduced to a few shrubs, juniper bushes, and Juniper trees, as you travel progressively on a pleasant track with views of snow-capped peaks, eventually arriving at Samagaon, a large village on the way to Manaslu base camp.
On this free day excursion in the fascinating Sama-Gaon settlements, see a magnificent place with the ideal altitude for a rest day, which is essential for acclimatization before traveling to higher elevations and via the Larkya-la pass.
The morning stroll will lead you to Samdo village, which is located on the Tibet border route. For centuries, locals have traveled to Tibet to do trade. Our morning trip begins with a hard climb over desolate, dry terrain with views of beautiful peaks, eventually reaching at Samdo for an overnight stop.
Today is a brief day climb to Larkya phedi / Dharmasala, crossing waterways and heading towards a more parched and barren region. The trek to Larkya phedi is not difficult apart from high altitude hiking with a few short highs and lows, and then ending the morning walk at Larkya phedi, at the base of Larkya-la pass. After lunch, the afternoon is free for a short hike.
Starting early in the morning to reach the top of Larkya-la pass at 5,214 meters, the trek takes you on a lengthy steep ascent with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and valleys, as well as Mt. Manaslu, Larkya peak, Bouddha Himal, Himalchuli, and Peak 29. After a difficult hike to the top of the pass, the summit ridge was adorned with Buddhist prayer flags. Following a short respite and wonderful views, a long descent leads back into the lush forested area to Bimthang for an overnight halt after a full day of walking.
After yesterday’s difficult walk, take a leisurely stroll downhill today. It starts with a gentle climb through rice fields to the little Karcha La pass, then descends through fir and rhododendron forests to Tilje.
Cross the suspension bridge across the Dudh Khola and descend through Tilje village on a beautiful stone-paved trail. The trail then ascends to Thonje village, passing through a chorten-shaped archway. Proceed to Dharapani, then Karte village. We’ll head to Tal village after crossing the Marsyandi Khola bridge.
After breakfast, drive for a few hours on a gravel road through several ranch villages to the large town of Beshishar, the Lamjung district headquarters, and then onto the solid path to Kathmandu with a fascinating scenic drive, finally arriving in Kathmandu after completing this mesmerizing awesome adventure.
Leisure day in Kathmandu, followed by a farewell meal and celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. On this day, you can visit the valley’s numerous museums, including the Narayanhiti Museum, which was previously the residence of Nepal’s last king. You can also visit the hilltop of Nagarkot. FAQs
The Manaslu Circuit Trek is distinct from other popular treks in Nepal due to its remoteness and cultural richness. Compared to more frequented routes like the Annapurna Circuit or Everest Base Camp, the Manaslu Circuit offers a more isolated and culturally immersive experience. The trek’s rugged terrain, high-altitude challenges, and fewer crowds make it a unique adventure for those seeking a less-traveled route with stunning natural beauty.
Respecting local customs and traditions is important while trekking in the Manaslu region. Dress modestly, particularly when visiting religious sites or interacting with local communities. Always ask for permission before taking photographs of people or private property. Show respect for local customs, such as removing your shoes before entering homes or monasteries. Engaging respectfully with local people and learning about their customs enriches your trekking experience and fosters positive interactions.
The Manaslu region is home to a variety of wildlife adapted to its diverse environments. You may spot animals such as the Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, and possibly snow leopards, though sightings of the latter can be rare. The area also supports various bird species, including the Himalayan griffon and pheasants. The trek’s natural beauty and wildlife add to its appeal, providing opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts.
The food on the Manaslu Circuit Trek generally consists of traditional Nepali and Tibetan dishes. You can enjoy meals such as dal bhat (rice and lentil soup), momo (dumplings), noodle soups, and various vegetable curries. Some teahouses may also offer Western-style dishes. The food provided is designed to be nutritious and energy-rich, supporting you through the physically demanding trek.
The Manaslu Circuit Trek generally takes between 14 to 18 days, depending on the specific itinerary and pace of trekking. This duration includes acclimatization days, trekking days, and travel time to and from Kathmandu. The trek’s length allows for a gradual ascent, ensuring proper acclimatization and minimizing the risk of altitude sickness. The exact duration can vary based on factors such as weather conditions and individual fitness levels.
