Overview
The Langtang Trek, which is classified as a moderate to strenuous grade trek, includes the Tilman Pass Trekking. Situated at an elevation of 5,350 meters in the upper Langtang region, near the boundary between Tibet and Nepal, this trip is a pioneer high altitude adventure. The main Langtang Himalayan pathways cross through the Langtang Tilman cross Trek. The most excellent wilderness trekking route in Nepal, this trek brings hikers to the end of the untamed and isolated Himalayan region. With Himalayan pine forests, it offers sweeping views of Langtang and Lirung, Langtang Himal, Naya Khanga, Yala Peak, Ganesh Himal, Langshisa, Gaurishanker, and Dorje Lakpa. Rhododendron blooms, thyr, bears, leopards, jackals, monkeys, wild peaks, wild boars, pheasants, peacocks, etc. are among the abundant flora and fauna in this area. The red panda and blue sheep call it home. The Tilman Pass Trek offers the chance to see various Himalayan vistas as well as the way of life of high alpine rural residents who interact with our knowledgeable team leaders in their manner, culture, and religion. This trek, also called the Jugal Himal Trek or Panch Pokhari Trek, takes you past five small lakes nestled in a large amphitheater made of scattered boulders. We tented close to a modest Vishnu temple, a popular Hindu pilgrimage destination.Since this trail is seldom used by tourists, it is perfect for hikers who wish to quietly take in the scenery in a secluded location. The trek will start with a drive through Dhunche to Sybrubensi. The trip to Sybrubensi offers several picturesque views of the surrounding villages and verdant forests. The path leads past Lama Hotel to Langtang Village, the oldest Tamang community in the Langtang area. The path continues through the Langtang valley and ends at Kyanjin Gompa, the oldest Langtang monastery. For an expansive perspective of the Langtang Himal range, you can climb to Tserko-Ri (4984m), Langshisha Ri (6427m), Yala Peak (5500m), and other locations.
Trekking through yak pastures, enchanted rhododendron forests, and the glacier moraines is an amazing experience. Trekkers can witness a variety of alpine flora and unusual wild creatures as the trail passes through Langtang National Park. It can be difficult to cross Tilman Pass (5320m) because the trail is mainly frozen and prone to rock falls. The trail arrives in the serene lakes of Panchpokhari, the ninth-highest wetland area in the world, after passing over Tilman Pass. After that, the hike comes to a close with a stroll through serene forests that lead to Chautara. A great trip for those seeking to conquer a peaceful trail at the base of the Himalayas is Tilman Pass trip.

Itinerary
You will arrive in Kathmandu valley at the Tribhuvan International Airport, and our agents from Gravity Expedition will be there to pick you up. They will take you to your hotel, where you can rest and enjoy a delicious and traditional Nepali meal. In the evening, you have the option to attend a fascinating folk cultural performance.
Following breakfast the following morning, you will go for a full-day sightseeing trip of the Kathmandu Valley. You may see Swyambhunath, a very old temple that is essentially classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the revered Pashupatinath Temple.
Highlights of our guided trip include the largest Buddhist stupa at Boudhanath and the exquisite artwork and old architecture of Kathmandu Durbar Square, which showcase the ancient culture of Nepal.
Patan City’s historic architecture and renowned fine arts will charm you on a visit. You will have time to explore the neighborhood, eat supper, and maybe take a leisurely stroll down the well-known streets when you get back to your hotel. A traditional Nepalese dinner at the Nepali Cultural Restaurant rounds off the day.
Following breakfast in the morning, we take a seven to eight-hour trip via Kathmandu’s northwest hills. Along the way, you will see beautiful views of green hillocks, rivers, and villages, as well as white snowcapped summits including Mt. Annapurna II, Manasalu, Ganesh Himal, and other smaller peaks. Savor the vistas and way of life of the Himalayas as you pass through the rural villages and terraced fields. It appears as though you are traveling towards low ground as you pass through the Trishuli Bazaar, Betrawati, and Dhunche, with their picturesque foothills and ridgeline vistas. We stop at the Trishuli Bazaar for lunch before moving on to Dhunche. For the overnight stay, we make our way down to Syabrubesi.
As of right now, our trail stays on the crest until it abruptly drops off to the east and passes through a thick woodland. The trail ascends through enormous stands of spruce, fir, and blue pine after meandering through the mild deciduous forests of oak and maple that blanket the lower portions of the valley. Close in, towering walls enclose us, and our trails edge sharp drops that empty into a river slick with silt below. In about an hour, just after the trail levels out, we join the former Langtang trail from Sherpa Gaon and Syabrubesi. We cross a bridge (1960 meters) over a tributary of the Langtang Khola and then ascend up from the river. From this trail intersection, it’s another hour to the Lama Hotel in the small village of Chon gong. Overnight at Tea house.
The day begins with a moderate ascent, but it quickly gets harder as it ascends well above the Langtang Khola through untamed forests of hemlocks, oaks, maples, and white and pink rhododendrons. The brief view of Mt. Langtang Lirung (7244m) through the foliage is followed by the enticing glimpse of snow-capped peaks. The trail ends at a log bridge, and as we continue uphill, we are rewarded with views of the verdant meadows of Ghora Tabela (2992m). The valley opens up into a traditional U-shaped glacier valley, and the trail progressively ascends. Traverse the helipad and yak meadows on the designated trail, then ascend momentarily via rhododendron bushes and sporadic Tamang villages. The trail leads to the major village of Langtang (3430m), the headquarters of Langtang National Park, after crossing a creek and ascending past a number of water-driven mills and prayer wheels.
The village features flat-roofed houses in the Tibetan style, and the top settlement’s intricately carved driving windows are well worth seeing. The valley is enclosed by stone walls that enclose fields that are cultivated with barley, wheat, turnips, buckwheat, and potatoes. It’s also common to see yaks and wild goats wandering around.
The trail continues uphill from Langtang, passing past the little yak-herding villages of Mundu, Sindum, and Yampha before following the route of Langtang Khola to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m) in tough terrain. The three-hour stroll offers views of snow-capped summits and mountains. You are free to explore Yak Cheese Factory in the afternoon. The breathtaking views of the surrounding terrain and mountains are breathtaking.
Today is the day for rest and exploration on the hiking route. The trek’s highest points, Kyanjin Ri (4350m) and Tserko Ri (5,000m), are reached by walking up a moraine to view the breathtaking ice faces and plunging glaciers of Langtang Lirung. We also visit the monastery and cheese factory. For a breathtaking view of Kinshung, Yansa Tsenji, Langtang Lirung, and the Langtang range, take a leisurely hike. We can choose to go on a detour to Langshisa Kharka. There are numerous side journeys that can be taken; the North’s surroundings have a lot of smaller, remote valleys. Return to Kyanjin for the night.
Early in the morning, you depart from Kyanjin Gompa and travel to Langshisa Kharka. Since there will be less danger of pebbles falling and the terrain being frozen, you must move quickly. The walk will be challenging because of the cold, icy landscape and the constant rock falls. It balances off after an hour or two. You get fantastic views of Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and Langshisa Ri (7427m) along the route. You begin to hike up and around some of the old glacial moraines towards the end. The precise location of Langshisa Kharka is identified by prayer flags and stone monuments. Overnight in Langshisa Kharka.
You make your way steeply towards Moraine Camp after breakfast. You travel through the dense alpine foliage and up the steep Langshisa Glacier moraine to the 4,580-meter-high Moraine Camp. Now, gorgeous snow-capped mountains encircle you, and the vista is breathtaking. Overnight in Moraine Camp.
Yak Kharka is reached after a 6-to 7-hour hike across Tilman’s Pass (5320m). Because of the sunshine, the boulder field becomes more unstable, thus it is best to start early. The footing is slick and full of uneven pebbles, making the ascent emotionally and physically taxing. Being one of the highest spots on our trek, Tilman Pass, can make breathing difficult as you approach the summit. You have breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains from the summit. After that, you go down the other side, via the loose rocks, and reach Yak Kharka. Overnight in Yak Kharka.
Our trek to Tin Pokhari, which translates to “three lakes,” starts today. You will descend through the loose rocks and snowy slopes. These lakes are entirely frozen over the winter. It is an excellent place to camp since you can enjoy the lakes’ breathtaking beauty and the surrounding vistas of the towering Himalayan range. Overnight in Tin Pokhari.
You hike to the serene Panchpokhari (Five Lakes) today. You pass through alpine greenery and rugged hills along the way. Since there are no towns along the route and the majority of the trip will be through the forest to get to Panchpokhari, today’s trek will be peaceful and tranquil. As a recognized wetland region, Panchpokhari is essential to maintaining the biodiversity of the area. The Panchpokhari lakes are located close to one another and are all equally serene and lovely. The surrounding scenery is quite breathtaking. Overnight in Panchpokhari.
On this day, you will explore the Five Lakes and the surrounding valley. You can get up early to see the gorgeous sunrise. Uphill, you have a great view of Dorje Lakpa (6966m) and the Jugal Himal range. The neighboring hills are home to a variety of bird species as well as fragrant flowers. Panchpokhari is also a sheltered pilgrimage place where the Janai Purnima celebration is conducted each August. This place is visited annually by a large number of Hindu and Buddhist pilgrims. Pilgrims also visit Lord Shiva’s shrine, which is near the lake. Stay overnight in Panchpokhari.
You leave Panch Pokhari early in the morning to travel to Nasimpati. The trek will be moderate, with a slow descent through the rocky hills. You arrive to Nasimpati after passing through alpine vegetation and exploring fauna. Overnight in Nasimpati.
You leave Nasimpati and hike across steep slopes and rhododendron trees. It will thereafter be a downhill trek until you reach Hile Bhanjyang. The culture and lifestyle of the residents in this village, as well as the picturesque landscape, are interesting. Overnight at Hile Bhanjyang.
Today, after breakfast, you travel to Pauwabas. It will be an uphill hike through the forest. Passing through the rhododendron forests, you can appreciate the region’s natural splendor. On a clear day, you may see the peaks of the Jugal Himal range. Then you descend a difficult trail to reach Pauwabas. Overnight in Pauwabas.
The trail today runs through rhododendron, oak, and pine forests. If you’re lucky, you might see some wild wildlife like mountain deer, langur monkeys, or the national bird, “Danfe”. The trail is level, and you will encounter several nomad huts along the way. On the way to Kami Kharka, you can see Langtang Lirung (7227m) and Dorje Lakpa (6966m) from a distance. After a 6-7-hour hike, you will pass a group of waterfalls before arriving to Kami Kharka. Overnight at Kami Kharka.
You descend through rhododendron and pine woodlands and trek downward to Sano Okhareni. After crossing several tiny streams and nomadic communities, you arrive in Sano Okhareni. Camping among pine forests allows you to enjoy a calm setting. Overnight in Sano Okhareni.
Today will be our final day of trekking. It will be a downhill hike for roughly 4-5 hours till you reach Chautara. En route to Chautara, you will pass through many little villages inhabited by many ethnic groups. After visiting the colorful town of Chautara, you will drive back to Kathmandu while admiring the countryside views. You will be transported to your accommodation upon arrival in Kathmandu. Overnight in a Kathmandu hotel.
Leisure day in Kathmandu, followed by a farewell meal and celebration. You can ask your guide to take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu Valley. On this day, you can visit the valley’s numerous museums, including the Narayanhiti Museum, which was previously the residence of Nepal’s last king. You can also visit the hilltop of Nagarkot. After exploring the valley’s world heritage sites, you will enjoy a farewell supper with your Nepali friends and guide. You and your guide may even decide to extend your stay to include a Chitwan jungle safari, rafting activities, and other activities.
Our representative of Gravity Expedition will accompany you to Tribhuvan International Airport as you prepare to board your flight back home. FAQs
The Tilman Pass Trek is considered challenging due to its high-altitude passes and rugged terrain. The trek involves several days of strenuous hiking, with steep ascents and descents, and the crossing of Tilman Pass at an altitude of approximately 5,200 meters (17,060 feet). Proper acclimatization is crucial to prevent altitude sickness. While the trek is demanding, it is manageable for trekkers with a good level of fitness and prior trekking experience. Regular cardiovascular and strength training, along with proper acclimatization, will help you prepare for the physical demands of this trek.
Accommodation on the Tilman Pass Trek primarily consists of teahouses and basic lodges in the local villages along the route. These accommodations provide basic facilities, including a bed, blankets, and communal dining areas. In more remote areas, accommodation might be in simple lodges with fewer amenities. Meals are typically prepared by local hosts and consist of traditional Nepali dishes, such as dal bhat (rice and lentil soup) and vegetable curries. The simplicity of the accommodations adds to the authentic trekking experience and allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture.
Connectivity in the Tilman Pass region can be limited, particularly in more remote areas. Mobile phone reception may be intermittent, and Wi-Fi is often unavailable or unreliable. Inform friends and family in advance that you might have limited communication. If you need to stay in touch for emergencies, consider bringing a satellite phone or a portable communication device. Your guide will also be able to assist with any communication needs and provide updates on your whereabouts.
Comprehensive travel insurance is highly recommended for the Tilman Pass Trek. Your insurance should cover medical emergencies, including altitude sickness, as well as evacuation costs if needed. Ensure your policy includes coverage for trekking at high altitudes and any potential trip interruptions. Having adequate insurance will provide peace of mind and financial protection in case of unexpected events or emergencies during your trek.
If you need medical attention during the Tilman Pass Trek, inform your guide immediately. They are trained to handle medical situations and can provide first aid or arrange for evacuation if necessary. In remote areas, medical facilities can be limited, so having a comprehensive first-aid kit and personal medications is essential. Ensure that your travel insurance covers medical emergencies and evacuation. Staying in good communication with your guide and following their advice will help manage any medical needs effectively.
