Churen Himal Expedition

38 Days

Overview

Mount Churen, with an elevation of 7,385 meters (24,229 feet), is one of the prominent peaks in the Dhaulagiri range. It comprises three distinct pinnacles: Churen West (7,371m), Churen South (7,375m), and Churen North (7,371m). The first successful ascent of Mount Churen Himal was achieved by the Academic Alpine Club of Shizuoka Expedition team on 24th October 1970, led by climbers Kr Fukui and K Hasegawa. Prior to this accomplishment, Ryozo Yamamoto and his group had attempted the climb in 1963, but their expedition didn’t come to fruition until 1970. The Academic Alpine Club of Shizuoka, Japan, successfully reached the main peak (West Peak) of Churen Himal (7,371m) and the Central Peak (approximately 7,371m) on 28th and 24th October 1970, respectively, via the Southeast ridge under the leadership of Takashi Serizawa.

To reach the base camp of Churen Himal South, one usually follows a five-day trekking route passing through Dharpani, Takum, Lumsung, Gurja, Burjunga Kharka, and Darsinge Khark. The base camp itself is situated at an altitude of 4,800 meters (15,748 feet), from where three other high camps are established: Camp I (5,700m/17,700ft), Camp II (6,200m/20,341ft), and Camp III (6,700m/21,981ft).
